Title I Compact
Overview
Columbian Elementary and the parents of the students participating in activities, services, and programs funded by Title I, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) agree that this compact outlines how the parents, the entire school staff, and the students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership that will help children achieve the State’s high academic standards.
Columbian Elementary will:
Provide a high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment that enables the participating children to meet the State’s student academic achievement standards as follows:
- “Highly Qualified” teachers in every classroom support rigor and depth of knowledge in data-driven instruction, promoting student growth, and mastery of skills needed to meet the educational challenges of the 21st century
- A safe and engaging learning environment that incorporates PBIS, No Bully, and 2nd Step Social-Emotional Learning Curriculum
- Intensive reading and math small group instruction for identified students
- Ongoing professional development for staff to increase effectiveness and meet the needs of all students
- Professional Learning Communities will ensure that teachers are prepared for instruction aligned to state and national standards, assessment data is analyzed to examine trends and determine next steps, and instructional adjustments are made to ensure every child learns at his maximum potential
- We look at the whole child and customize instruction for each child based on classroom performance and ongoing assessments that identify student growth
Hold parent-teacher conferences during which this compact will be discussed as it relates to the individual child’s achievement. Specifically, those conferences will be held:
- During October and March
- Back to School/Title I night in which the compact and Title I Parent Involvement will be discussed
- Parent-Teacher Conference upon request by a parent
Provide parents with frequent reports on their children’s progress. Specifically, the school will provide reports as follows:
- Communicate nightly through a student planner or take-home folder
- Istation Summary Report
- I Ready Reports
- Online access to students’ academic progress via Infinite Campus Parent Portal.
- Quarterly report cards
- RtI Meetings for identified students
Provide parents reasonable access to staff. Specifically, staff will be available for consultation with parents as follows:
- Family Engagement Nights
- Hold an annual “Open House” to meet staff and learn about Title I programs
- Meet with parents upon request and/or return phone calls/ emails in a timely manner
- Parent-Teacher Organization meetings
- School and/or classroom phone messages
- School website
Provide parents opportunities to volunteer and participate in their child’s class, and to observe classroom activities, as follows:
- All parents have the right to know if their child’s teacher is “Highly Qualified” and the teacher’s qualifications; or if services are given by a paraprofessional, they have the right to know that services are given by a paraprofessional and to know the paraprofessional’s qualifications
- Complete volunteer background check on District website
- Involve parents in the annual planning, review, and improvement of the School Parent Involvement Policy
- Make arrangements with the classroom teacher for a time and specific volunteer activities
- Make arrangements with the counselor for time and specific volunteer activities
- Serve on the school parent accountability board
- Sign-in and wear a volunteer badge at all times
Parent Responsibilities
We, as parents, will support our children’s learning in the following ways:
- Ensure that my child or children are at school, on time, and attend daily
- Making sure that homework is completed
- Staying informed about my child’s education and communicating with the school by promptly reading all notices from the school and/or school district either received by my child or by mail and responding, as appropriate
- Serving, to the extent possible, on policy advisory groups, such as the Title I parent representative on the school’s School Accountability Committee, the Title I Family Engagement Committee, etc.
- Attend parent nights, conferences, and parent meetings concerning your child
- See that the school has accurate emergency numbers, phone numbers, and addresses for the parent/mentor at all times
Student Responsibilities
We, as students, will share the responsibility to improve our academic achievement and achieve the State’s high standards. Specifically, we will:
- Do my homework every day and ask for help when I need to
- Read at least 30 minutes every day outside of school time
- Be respectful to all adults and my peers
- Doing my part to learn all I can - My future depends on it
- Help make our school a safe place for all students
- Set personal goals for achievement
Title One Programs and Plan
- Inform parents about goals and purposes of Title I, curriculum used in Title I programs, academic assessments used to measure student progress, and proficiency levels students are expected to meet.
- Involve parents in the planning, review, and improvement of Title I programs at school.
- If the Title I Plan is not satisfactory to the parents, submit parent comments on the plan to the district.
- If requested by parents, provide opportunities for regular meetings where parents may offer suggestions or ask questions.
- Provide timely responses to parent’s suggestions/questions.
- Provide assistance to parents, as appropriate, in understanding assessments, Title I requirements, monitoring academic progress, and how to work together to improve student achievement.
